I don’t understand this compulsion to take good, positive things and say they aren’t good ENOUGH or positive ENOUGH.
What Malala has done over the course of her young life is amazing, and it’s so great that she is being recognized on an international level. The fact that someone else is also doing great things and deserves and received recognition takes nothing away from Malala.
This reminds me of the huge backlash I keep seeing against the #heforshe campaign and Emma Watson specifically. I understand the criticisms, but it is a positive thing, a step in the right direction. Instead of fighting against #heforshe or other campaigns that have a good goal with imperfect execution, why not augment them with BETTER campaigns and STRONGER messages.
The world is still a frighteningly backwards place. Something doesn’t have to be perfect to be good, and worthwhile, and positive.
So try to enjoy the fact that someone you seem to look up to, and who is deserving of respect, has achieved so much and is receiving recognition on such a renowned and prestigious platform.
